I’m not quite sure how I found out about these handmade knit bookwraps. I think it was on Twitter. Something caught my eye – it probably had something to do with the fact that this bag has Wanderlust in its name AND the craftsperson is named Beth. 2 marks in the “I gotta check this out” column.
It IS a cool idea. A special bag, handknit to carry your books. But, it’s not just the fact that it’s a neat little item – you can actually tell that this was lovingly made with skilled hands. It’s soft, inviting and just begging to be carried on that next trip.
These are created by Beth Branson who writes the Lusted to Wander blog. She lives in Alaska for half of the year (guess which half) and is a happy nomad the other half. Check out her blog and pop over to her goods for sale on Etsy.
The bag is big enough to carry a couple of average-sized books. Though it doesn’t have a handle, you can wrap the long single strap around the bag and then just slip this into your daybag. I have ruined lots of books myself by cramming them into a daybag without any kind of protection so this is the perfect antidote.
The book bags are just $30 and will go to a good cause – the travel coffers of this part-time Alaskan resident. Made of 100% wool, they are felted to create a dense fabric, making them sturdy enough for even that Lonely Planet India guide!
Travel Well,
Beth
