I got an email last week from a gal, Amy, who was preparing to leave for India to receive stem cell treatment. This is a medical procedure that she cannot get in the US! Amy suffers from severe neuropathy that developed from an undiagnosed case of Lyme Disease. She’s in her 20’s, a very young woman who should not be in such pain. Her insurance company has denied claims to cover prescriptions and she’s been unable to find relief in her own country. So off she went to India.
Please read her story on WiseBread, add your comments and support Amy! She also writes about her full experience on her own blog.
I’ll be in India next week and plan to visit with her while I’m in Delhi. She will be in-hospital for nearly two months but I’m hoping to break her out for a few hours (with her doc’s permission, of course).
On a completely different topic but down the same path of “this is an amazing woman”, my friend, Maliha Masood, was the Trip Coach yesterday on Budget Travel online. Maliha coached readers on the fine art of traveling in the Mideast. Maliha’s the author of Zaatar Days, Henna Nights and knows a thing or two about traveling through this region.
Check out Maliha’s website and read her article, Woman in the Dunes, on this site.
Happy Travels!

Thanks for telling us about Amy. And I’m so glad you’ll be seeing her in India. My heart goes out to her and I look forward to reading her blog and hearing good news about the stem cell procedure she’s going through. I know nothing about it, except that I wish we’d hurry up and get the research done in this country to help all the people in Amy’s predicament.

Traveling outside the USA for medical treatments is becoming very popular. I just read an article in
Harvards Business Newsletter that explores the issue and tells how fine the hospitals in India are. Blessings to Amy and i am sure a visit from you Beth will be a highlight of her stay.Travel well.
