Have you ever looked at the Homeland Security website? Prompted by a story on NPR this morning, I had to take a look and I have some news. We can all sleep easy now because while we are all threatened, Homeland Security is going to help us.
This morning’s story involved some airlines’ resistance for providing the U.S. government with credit card records of passengers arriving into the U.S. In turn, those airlines not responding were threatened with stiff fines. As a temporary solution through July 2007, the U.S. will be “pushed” credit card information for incoming passengers, but they are not allowed to “pull” it. I swear, that’s what the report said.
All this information sharing got me thinking. Big Brother really is watching! King George is already overseeing what we check out of the library and what books we purchase at bookstores. It shouldn’t surprise me that he’s also requiring “cooperation” (via arm twisting) by the airlines to provide intimate details of purchases by those arriving from abroad.
So, when you go back to bed, sleep peacefully knowing that Homeland Security has systems in place to help us deal with the purchase of too many shoes in Paris and copies of The Da Vinci Code, as well as nuclear threats and hurricanes.
Happy Travels!

When I figure it out, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, doing positive things, like writing letters to your representatives who are doing things to get us out of this mess, would be a good start. Getting the democratic vote out next month is another way that we can help the tide to turn!

I agree ….. first, we need to get our information from a variety of sources … so thank you for presenting information to those who may not find it elsewhere. Letter writing, forwarding informational websites to friends, getting the dialog going, and get out and vote … good gracious, so many single women did not vote in the last campaign!

Good point about the number of women voting. I don’t know what the stats are but we are an extremely important part of the voting community and do need to get out the vote in a few weeks!
