Room with a view. Despite the snow – lots of folks attended ATE.
This weekend I was in Chicago for the Adventures in Travel Expo sponsored by National Geographic. Despite the five or so inches of snow that fell on Saturday, Chicagoans came out in full force to see speakers such as Andrew Zimmern from the Food Network, Patricia Schultz (1,000 Places to See Before You Die) and ME! Well there were lots of other really cool people speaking as well including fellow Seattleites Peter Potterfield, Michele Benoy-Westmorland and Harry Rutstein.
I know both Peter and Michele from Seattle but I also had the chance to meet a few of the Nat Geo explorers and grant recipients who’ve done some pretty amazing things, including Nat Geo contributing writer and photographer Tom Clynes and videographer and adventurer Trip Jennings. I also caught part of Harry’s show about his adventures following Marco Polo’s trail.
Peter McBride gave a stellar slide and video show on Sunday that included the Snowman Trek in Bhutan (an adventure that’s close to my heart as I would LOVE to do this 28-day trip through the Himalayas). And photographer Michele Benoy-Westmorland spoke about Papua New Guinea, a country that she has visited 25 times (and another location on MY list of must-sees!).
I’m back in the office today, but my Wanderlust has been stirred more than it has been in a long time.
The Adventures in Travel Expo will be in LA on February 14th and 15th, in Washington DC on February 21st and 22nd, in New York on October 10th and 11th and back in Seattle on December 5th and 6th. Attend. Get inspired. And plan a trip!
Travel Well!
