This is one of my favorite photos from my most recent trip to Bhutan. This is Punakha Dzong (monastery). Punakha was once the capital of Bhutan and is now the winter seat of the monastic body of the country. In my opinion, this is by far the most beautiful dzong in the whole country, both from the exterior and once you enter its massive courtyard.
This was my third visit to the dzong and on this particular occasion, it appeared almost surrealistic. Must have been the way the sun was shining in combination with the clear blue skies.
Travel Well!

Wow! That’s an impressive structure, and the setting does make it look surreal.

I watched Bhutan not long ago on an old Michael Palin travel programme. This looks a stunning place to visit and it’s neighbour Mustang (I’m there in spirit).

I always love the look of stark white buildings against surrounding beautiful landscape…looks like a fairy tale building 🙂
