Laissez les bon temps rouler, Wanderluster!
I just returned from New Orleans (woot!) where I was researching our soon to be announced culinary tour. That’s me >> with a gator (no, he’s not what’s for dinner) during a swamp tour.
Briefly, in tour news, the Santa Fe Culinary Tour is sold out and there are just a few spots left on Seattle, Vietnam & Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand & Laos. Tours are filling quickly so don’t wait to register.
Our big October news is that we’ve launched our 6th Annual WanderWomen Write Travel Writing Contest!
Sponsored by Expedia, the contest gives you the opportunity to show off your writing prowess for a chance to win a six-night stay at the Westin in Playa Conchal in Costa Rica (approximate value $4,080)! Four Category Winners will each receive a TORQ carry-on bag from Briggs & Riley (value $479).

Wander Recommendations
On the Bookshelf
The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri
You know Jhumpa from her book (and movie) The Namesake. This is her latest novel, many say her best work, about two very different brothers from middle-class Calcutta growing up during the turbulent 60’s. It’s tragic, it’s a love story and if you love India (and Jhumpa), you’ll enjoy The Lowland.

Rough Guide to New Orleans
This city just gets under your skin. And once you leave, you must have something to continue conjuring up the magic. This CD from Rough Guide includes a fairly good compilation from some of the best funky bands from the Crescent City including The Meters, Dr. John, and Professor Longhair.
In the DVD
If God is Willing and da Creek Don’t Rise by Spike Lee
I was truly moved by what I saw firsthand of the aftermath of Katrina. Even eight years later, the growth is slow and the story sad. This four-hour documentary by Spike Lee traces what happened during and after this truly disastrous event. It’s heartbreaking and my wish is that everyone in the U.S. knows the Katrina story.
