Hello, Wanderluster!
I’m just back from the Big Island, where Jon and I took our inaugural high altitude hike in preparation for the Snowman Trek this fall. We hiked 14,000 foot Mauna Kea (that’s me on the mountain >>>) and had a blast doing so. We then took some time off (sort of) in Kauai for a week. The Snowman Trek is sponsored by XShot and Expedia. Did you know we’ll be raising funds for RENEW, an organization in Bhutan that supports women of domestic violence? Yup. Pretty cool.
I’m home now long enough to pack for Bangkok, Bhutan and then Bali to research a 2015 tour. Stay tuned for details.
Speaking of tours… we had a cancellation on the New Orleans Culinary Tour and now have one coveted spot open. Interested? Register right away.

The Sex Lives of Cannibals
by J. Maarten Troost
HILARIOUS. This is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Though it takes place in one of most obscure places of the planet (the island of Kinbati), the author makes this completely unknown destination interesting. Well, maybe not so interesting to make me want to visit but interesting in a I-can’t-put-this-book-down-kind-of-way. If youlike travel humor, you’ll love this.

Maui On My Mind
by Jeff Peterson
Apparently the entire population of Hawaii already knows about this slack key guitarist. But I had the good fortune of discovering him just last week while visiting Kauai. His song Hawaiian Skies was featured in The Descendents and, oh my, this song just brings tear to my eyes. Please buy this. And if you don’t like it, well I might just refund your money yourself.
In the DVD
Winged Seduction: Birds of Paradise
You don’t have to be a birder OR a fan of Papua New Guinea to totally get hooked on this video about these amazing birds from PNG. You’ll pretty much be blown away by the strange habits of these creatures and the diversity among the various species.

JayBird BlueBuds Wireless Headphones
I’ve learned that with most things, wireless is the way to go. And it’s so true when it comes to headphones. These JayBird BlueBuds allow me plenty of freedom to move around while listening to or talking on my iPhone. No longer am I tethered to it while at the gym or walking around the house with my favorite podcast playing. Read more here…
