In my book, Tilley has always been synonymous with hats. I was actually surprised to find out that they also manufacture a complete line of travel clothes and accessories including dresses, skirts, tops, shawls, socks, underwear and belts.
Even though it’s theoretically summer, it’s been cool enough here in Seattle that I’ve been able to make really good use of the Tilley Venture Trek Convertible Jacket.
First and foremost, I really like the fit of the Venture Trek. While other manufacturers’ adventure jackets tend to be more masculine, this one is tapered at the waist, providing a nice feminine touch. The two outer pockets are zippered to keep your items safe and one interior pocket has Velcro to make it easy to grab its contents.
Bonus: the jacket converts into a vest when you zip off the sleeves.
Made from nylon and spandex, there’s a bit of give to the material. I find this most useful when I’m trying to put both arms through my daybag’s straps. The front zipper goes all the way up so the collar fits around your neck (which has been great as our nights have been really cool!).
Washing instructions on the website state that it can be washed and air-dried overnight. I haven’t tested this out yet but it seems like a great feature for travelers.
I did notice that the zippers for the sleeves don’t fully close together, so there’s a bit of a gap under the armpit. I realized this when I saw a couple of people staring at my armpit when I lifted my arms. Not a big deal in the scheme of things.
As much as I like this jacket, hopefully soon I’ll be able to put it away for the summer to enjoy some sunshine. Until then, I’ll be thoroughly enjoying it.
Travel Well,
Beth
