I always say that all you REALLY need to travel is your passport, a plane reservation and access to cash. There are a few items, however, that make your travels a bit more pleasant. Here are a few things that I’ve pulled together. If there’s a traveler in your life, you might consider these as gifts!
Pacsafe Metrosafe 200 – I discovered this bag earlier this year and love it. It has a slashproof shoulder strap and is made of slashproof material all around to prevent a thief from doing a slice and snatch.
Eyeshades – I can’t travel without these. They allow me to sleep on a plane when my neighbor has the light on and it keeps out the sun in a hotel room for those mornings I need to sleep in.
SteriPen – This UV water purifying system is just the thing for anyone concerned about the environment. You can literally drink tap water in India after purifying the water with the SteriPen. This then allows you to keep all those plastic bottles out of the garbage, or in the case of India, off the sidewalks.
Ex Officio Convertible Pants – I’ve been traveling with the clothes on my back when I leave the country and I then purchase anything I need when I arrive. These are the pants that always get packed.
DivaCup – I know, men. You don’t even WANT to hear about this one. But truly, this is an excellent alternative to feminine products. It’s easy to pack and depending on your flow, you can easily go 24 hours without having to fiddle with it.
Happy Travels!

Great list of items to improve your travels and still keep your luggage light!
I also swear by eye shades and ear plugs when traveling. They help you tune out an unfamiliar or chaotic environment and get the sleep you need to be fresh and travel savvy.
One other item that I always find useful is a headlamp. You never know when you might be somewhere with spotty power or have a roommate who wants to sleep while you want to read.
Thanks for the information on the SteriPen. I will have to go out and get one immediately!
Here’s to happy travels!
