I’m humbled today.
I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of the travel community; travel bloggers eager to participate in the Passports with Purpose fundraiser; companies willing to donate clothing, overnight hotel stays, electronics, guide books… the list goes on (wait ’til you see the list on Monday!; and the media willing to help us promote this cause to benefit Heifer International.
I have mixed emotions however.
This morning I received an email from friends who have been stranded at the Bangkok airport trying to get to Burma. They’re back in downtown Bangkok but they don’t know if/when they’ll get to Burma – the reason for their trip.
And, news just broke that as many as 80 people have been gunned down in Mumbai by terrorists. Luxury hotels were one of the primary targets at no less than 7 sites. Hostages are being held and at least 250 people have been wounded.
So, I sit here safe in my basement office. I’m sifting through email after email from people willing to participate in our small (but growing) effort to do some good in the world, and, outside, it seems the world is falling apart. (OK, I’m being dramatic, but that’s how I’m feeling right now).
Happy Thanksgiving!
Beth
