Last November, we traveled to and fell in love with Tibet: blue skies, fresh air and wonderful people and culture. This photos wass taken on one of the moutain passes.
Our guide informed us that the colorful prayer flags found throughout the area are relics of Tibet’s ancient indigenous religion, know, as “Bon,” which preceded Buddhism. The flags, which are printed with symbols, mantras and prayers, are found everywhere – even in the most remote mountain passes. People hang them in high places so that their words are blown in the wind to bring good fortune and happiness to those around them. Our daughter loved to recite the meaning of each color: blue for the sky, yellow for earth, white for clouds, red for fire, and green for water. The five elements bring balance to life.
