You might recall that back in June, Jon and I took off for Yellowstone for a long weekend. It was a short trip, but it was a fantastic getaway.
We flew into Idaho Falls and drove to Teton Village where we rented a condo. This moose was just a stone’s throw from where we were staying. He was just happily munching on trees in the yard of a home across the street from the condo.
Up towards the Northeastern part of the park, you’ll find what they call the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with this amazing waterfall at the entrance to the area.
As we left Yellowstone and headed back to our accommodations, we drove through Teton National Park and had perfect weather to get this view of the mountain range.
Before we left on this trip, my book publicist, Kate Bandos, sent me a copy of a book from another one of her clients, Janet Chapple. The book is Yellowstone Treasures: The Traveler’s Companion to the National Park. The book was invaluable for helping us find little-known hikes, waterfalls and geysers. We used it for research in advance and referred to it constantly during our 14 hour drive through the park. It includes detailed maps, ideas for the best places to stay and a field guide to the wildlife. There are other guides to Yellowstone, but I don’t believe they go into as much insider information as Yellowstone Treasures. I equate this to the Milepost guide that every driver to Alaska uses.

Sounds like a great trip. Thanks for sharing info about the book. We have never done Yellowstone but hope to make it into a big family adventure trip in the future.

Yellowstone is a fabulous place. When we were there we didn’t get to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, from the looks of you image we need to go there on our return! Love the shot of the moose. The exaggerated nose is great and you captured her expression perfectly.

Haven’t been there yet but am dying to go. I love dramatic waterfalls and the noise they create when in flood. The moose looks good.

Wow, that looks beautiful. I’ve never made it there (always relied on public transport on previous US trips) but I definitely want to go. Lovely photos!

We particularly liked the Tetons when we visited a couple of summers ago. That shot brought back nice memories.
I wish we had that book (and about 4 more days) when we visited Yellowstone. I remember how valuable our Milepost was when we visited Alaska!
