One of the things I have really come to treasure about having written a book and having a public face as a blogger is the fact that I’m continually meeting new people. Making connections, being introduced to interesting women and men through mutual acquaintances and discovering new friends through the internet (no, not THAT kind of friend) has been an amazing experience.
One of my new friends was visiting from Vancouver this past week and I had her over for dinner.
Leslie Nevison guides tours through Tanzania with her company, Mama Tembo Tours. Over a dinner of Indian food (homemade that I prepared with help from Jon and his mom, Ethel), we talked lots of travel-talk. Leslie is passionate about Tanzania and has a safari tour company that guides small groups through the region. She explained to me that many tour companies there never expect to see their participants again and therefore don’t provide a high level of service.
Mama Tembo Tours, on the other hand, treats their customers very well and provides an insider’s perspective on the country. Who better to lead these tours than someone who’s been to the country more than 70 times. As a result, Leslie is able to educate her tour participants about the cultural nuances of the locals and also hire the very best guides for viewing the vast wildlife.
Much of Leslie’s business is repeat which says something about her tours.
Happy Travels!
