For the next month or so, I plan to blog about my travels in India. I actually write two blogs where you’ll be able to read about my journey — the other is on the Seattle Post Intelligencer website.
My intention is to write a more chronological-based blog here on Wanderlust and Lipstick, and to fill in with stories on the PI site. Please read both!
And to give you an idea as to where I’ll be when, here’s my rough itinerary. You must know, however, that even the best-laid plans in India have a good chance of going sideways. I’m armed with patience and flexibility and the knowing that I have little control over how things will really work out!
Delhi — 2 to 3 nights
Varanasi/Sarnath — 2 nights (including New Year’s Eve)
Calcutta — 2 nights
Darjeeling — 2 nights
Calcutta — 1 night (while I figure out how I will get to Kerala in the south)
Kerala — 5 nights (I don’t have specific plans except that I want to visit Ama Chi’s Ashram for a night on a backwater tour)
Udaipur, Rajasthan — 2 nights (to relax and visit my friend, Akhand-the-driver-astrologer-palm-reader)
Pushkar, Rajasthan — 1 or 2 nights (I’ve always wanted to visit this city, home to the Camel Festival that takes place each November)
Agra — a day trip (to take some more photos for my India book)
Delhi — 2 nights/3 days (I depart from Delhi on January 22nd)
I have a few days buffer built in and this doesn’t take into account the overnight trains that I will certainly be traveling on during the longer stretches.
Best intentions — ha ha ha!
Happy Travels!

Great to read about your India trip! Very excited because I am from India and have been a regular reader of the newsletter! Do get in touch if you need any help when in Delhi. Also have friends in Mumbai, Bangalore and other places, so could help if you need it.
Have a great time!

Namaste!
I can’t wait to hear about your experiences! Was this your first time in Varanasi and did you find it as magical as I did? Good on ya for the trip and welcome back.
