The PacSafe VenturSafe 20L is the latest addition to my growing pile of PacSafe travel bags and accessories.
I discovered PacSafe a number of years ago when I was looking for a small shoulder bag for my travels. Since then, I’ve been singing their praises for numerous reasons:
- They utilize patented eXomesh technology to ensure the panels on the bags are slashproof
- The shoulder straps are slashproof
- Tamper-proof zippers tuck underneath seams and ensure that would-be thieves can’t access the pockets

It may sound corny but as a woman who often travels solo, I really do feel more secure (and thus can act more confident) when I’ve got a bag that I know will keep my items safe.
When I first saw the VentureSafe 20L I thought it would be too big for me to use as a daybag. I wanted something to carry around a book or two, a journal, a bottle of water and have a little room for souvenirs. But when I really looked at it, I realized it wasn’t so big after all.
The deception, I think, comes from the fact that the shoulder straps are nearly as industrial as you might find on a backpack (as opposed to a daybag). So, if you’re looking at it from the back, it looks bulky and as though it might be a small backpack. In addition, it has side compression straps (common on backpacks) that you would use to tighten the front and back together. Again, these give the impression that this is a small backpack.
The padded back, though a nice feature, also adds a bit of bulk to its appearance.
Just looking at the front of the bag and ignoring the side straps – it actually looks (and IS) quite trim.
Now, we’re talking daybag.
Definitely sturdy. Definitely safe. And available in the VentureSafe 25L for anyone needing a slightly bigger bag.

What would make it better?
- Top loading front pocket (available in the 25L version). The current pocket zips open from the side making it impractical to keep much in here without fear of it falling out unless the bag is on it’s side.
- Ditch the side compression straps – not necessary on a daybag
- Same with the sternum straps – for a daybag there’s no need for such heavy duty straps

Currently the VentureSafe 20L is available in black and Tabasco. My one real complaint with PacSafe from day one has been the lack of appealing colors (and to me, Tabasco is not appealing). A splash of girly color (particularly for the bags that are FOR women) wouldn’t hurt. But, I am glad to see their turtle icon is now purple ๐
