Greetings from Santa Fe, Wanderluster!
Our Santa Fe Culinary Tour is just starting and we miss you! Why aren’t you here? Well, there IS always next year. If you’re interested, we’ve already got a waiting list for 2014 so drop me a line if you’d like to be included in our eating extravaganza.
Before coming to New Mexico, I was in Toronto for TBEX (the travel bloggers conference). While there, Passports with Purpose was awarded the SMITTY Award from Travel + Leisure. This is a great honor for the entire travel blogging community!
The other big news I’ve been just dying to announce is that I am part of the Expedia Viewfinder blog which launched last week. I’m now regularly writing about my travel experiences and providing tips to the Expedia audience. You can see all of my stories here.

On the Bookshelf
Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD
I know. This is not a travel book. But I just finished reading it and felt that it was important enough to share with you. We’ve all heard that a low-carb diet is the way to go. I’m now totally convinced because Dr. Davis provides the scientific proof about how truly terrible all forms of wheat are for our precious bodies. Read it and if you choose to go off the wheat (like me) let me know how it works for you. I’m truly interested.
In the iPod
Blackbirds are Dancing Over Me by Danny Michel & the Benque Players
I’ve long been a fan of The Garifuna Collective and this CD is a marriage of Danny Michel with Garifuna.Though this is Danny’s 10th album, I just discovered him and am in love. A Canadian, Danny set up shop in Belize to record this CD. Just as Belize blends cultures, so does this music – English lyrics with heavy rhythms, beautiful music, and all in the vein of Paul Simon’s Graceland.
In the DVD
Life of Pi
If you didn’t catch this in the theater, it’s now widely available to rent or buy. I really enjoyed the book and thought that Ang Lee visually did a fantastic job in this beautifully filmed (yet still tragic) story.
WanderGear Review
Taos Cleopatra Sandals
I’ve been wearing these during my travels for months but they are particularly poignant here in New Mexico (home of Taos). Lovin’ ’em because I can dress up or down with these and wear them all day… Read more…
