Rest Easy bedbug spray
This is an all-natural, pesticide-free product that utilizes natural oils to kill and scare away little critters including bedbugs and small insects. A few spritzes will reportedly keep the bugs away for at least a week.
Though the cinnamon-laden scent might be a bit overwhelming for some, I’m used to having strong-ish scents in my home from incense and candles so this did not bother me. And, I found that a couple of spritzes actually lingered quite nicely for awhile.
I’m not one to be overly concerned about bedbugs in my hotel room but I have stayed in places where I’m sure I could have used Rest Easy. For travelers who are moving around a lot, it would be hard to tell how effective this is unless you know for sure there’s a problem in your room. But, if the linens you’re sleeping in are questionable, you might consider putting your trust in something natural such as Rest Easy.
It’s available in industrial-sized bottles but also comes in a 2 oz. twin pack (4 oz. total) so you can easily carry the little pump bottles with you when you travel. $17 from Amazon
Soak
Soak is a no-rinse detergent, meaning that once you’ve soaked your clothes in your hotel room’s sink, you can simply let the water wash away. No need to rinse and wring out your delicates such as lingerie and swimsuits.
Soak comes in a variety of scents (including unscented for the sensitive) as well as a variety of sizes. Although they are currently working on producing a line of security-friendly 3 oz. bottles, for now you’ll have to do with carrying their single-size versions or transferring Soak from a larger container into a carry-on size bottle if you plan to go through security with it. 12 mini-soaks are $15 from the company’s website and a 425 ml bottle is $16.
Though you may not be traveling with a lot of delicates, it’s at least nice to know that you don’t have to spend a lot of time on your laundry when you’d rather be out exploring!
Lightload Towels
These compact and lightweight towels come in both a 3-pack of hand towels and a beach towel size. I tested out the hand towels and, while I did find them to be very lightweight and absorbent, I can’t say that I’d use these in my travels – not because it’s a bad product, I just wouldn’t have a use for it.
The 12 x 24 inch size is just smaller than a bandanna, which is what I normally travel with to wipe sweat and dry my hands. Where I would use this smaller size is in my car – for wiping down the windshield and dusty dashboard.
The beach towel (which I didn’t test out) seems more plausible for me as a traveler. It’s 36 x 60 inch size is slightly small for most people (I’m 5′ 2″ and wouldn’t quite fit on it). However, the fact that it compacts down super small and light means that I would have definitely packed this for some of my longer trips during my backpacker days when the hotels where I stayed didn’t supply any sort of pool or beach towel. The beach towel is less than $10 on Amazon.
