Photos: Around Auckland and in Russell, New Zealand.
Several weeks ago, I was asked for a list of countries I had visited for one of my projects. I had no idea how many this might be, so I sat down with a globe, pen and paper and began counting. In all, I had visited 59 countries across North America, South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia. I now had one more reason to be excited for our upcoming trip to New Zealand: it would be the sixtieth country I had visited.
Several days later, we departed for the country’s north island. It was ironic to me that the first impression of my sixtieth country was that it looked very much like home, that is, the Northwest United States. As we walked around Auckland, the largest city in the country, I felt as if I were in Seattle, albeit a smaller version. We even happened upon a coffee shop called, “Seattle Espresso.”
You don’t have to believe me, however; take a look at these photos and decide for yourself: Is Auckland or Seattle?
And a couple more:
Even after we left the city and arrived at the charming town of Russell, I found myself wondering, “The San Juans or New Zealand?”
