I’m thrilled to have been quoted in this morning’s New York Times in an article about gear that makes traveling with kids easier Thanks for stopping by Dim Sum Diary to check it out!
Here are some products I recommend based on my own experience living overseas and travelling to more than a dozen countries with our young daughter:
- Sit n Stroll: ($249.99) Made by Lilly Gold (www.sitnstroll.com), This was our most important travel item from the time our daughter was born until she turned 4. It converts easily from stroller to car/airplane seat and back again. It can be forward or rear facing and supports babies from 5 to 40 pounds. We used our sit n stroll for flying all over the world – including numerous trips home to the US – and it held up well. I was always reassured knowng our daughter was comfortable and safe. Once we arrived at destinations, we used it when cabbing around town.
- Child’s life vest MTI Adventurewear – Child’s PFD – Type III (US$50) is good for children between 30 and 50 pounds. In Asia, recreation companies carry life vests for adults only so if there is even a chance that we will be near water on our vacations, we bring this along. My daughter has worn it to go boating in Thailand, Myanmar, the Maldives, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
- Kelty Pathfinder 3.0 Child Carrier (US$279.95) provides great back support for moms and dads and a five-point harness to keep little ones safely in place. When we were travelling in Italy when Elisa was a baby, the cobblestones made it difficult to stroll, so we used this backpack instead.
- Inflatable booster seat : ($35) We often travel off the beaten path where high chairs in restaurants simply do not exist or offer a preacrious perch. This inflatable chair was great in giving our daughter – and her parents – some independence when dining out. It fits nicely into a small backpack or diaper bag.
