School. Check.
School nurse. Check.
Now what? How ’bout a veggie garden and clean water?
This is our last week of Passports with Purpose. We blew through our first goal of $13,000 to build the school. As of last night, we raised enough to provide a nurse for one year. And now we want to finish up this week, doubling our original goal, so that we can provide a vegetable garden and water filter for the children at the Passport School. We’ve got approximately $7,500 more to go! Seriously, “only” $7,500. That’s about a grand a day through December 21.
With your help, here’s what we can expect once all is said and done:
The school is being built in Preah Vihear province, near the Thai border and about 9 hours north of Phnom Penh. It’s already under construction and we expect it to open in the summer of 2010!
This area is under a border dispute with Thailand, which makes our efforts even more important. Other than the Preah Vihear Temple which is located here, it has little to draw tourists. According to Lonely Planet, this area remains “desperately poor” due to the hold by the Khmer Rouge until 1998. There are no paved roads in this province. In the wet season, this region is relatively impassable…
In other words, these kids need us!
With the help of our generous sponsors and people like you making donations in $10 increments, we’ve been able to realize our dream of raising enough to build a school. We even did what we never anticipated – we raised enough to provide a school nurse for one year. Now, please help us help continue the momentum for the vegetable garden and clean water to ensure nourishment at the Passport School!
