These terraced rice fields are typical of the landscape on the island of Bali in Indonesia. This photo was taken near Ubud. When I was there it was a relatively small village where dusty streets were lined with cafes and restaurants, yoga studios and local craft shops. This is the area where Elizabeth Gilbert found love in her book, Eat Pray Love. Having had at least one tour company contact me about their specialized tours to the region to follow in Elizabeth’s footsetps, I fear what this place may have already transformed into.

When were you there? I was there in 1991 and it was touristy even back then. I can’t imagine what it’s like now.
