I can’t be too upset with George Bush. After all, without him we wouldn’t have Barack Obama.
As a country, and as travelers, we can now look forward to a world that will accept us as a forward-thinking, ground-breaking nation. Whether I’m in Thailand, France or Japan, no more sideward glances and looks of astonishment from other travelers of how we might have elected W not once but twice. And how, for so long, “we” supported his misguided world politics.
It’s too bad that the pendulum had to swing so far to the right before it could swing to a man of such integrity and with such a positive outlook.
Hmmm, can you tell I’m pleased as punch that we’re here and that we can, once again, wear our own U.S. flag lapel pins on our backpacks without shame or fear of being targeted by angry words?
It’s a new day for the U.S. and the world. The sun’s coming and while it may be a long slog, we’re on to something good here, folks!
Travel Well!

Awesome post Beth! I full on agree.. and now we don’t have to lie and say we’re from Canada.. or Japan (me) when traveling so that foreigners.. esp. Europeans look at us in such awe disgust!

Beth, I couldn’t be happier with our new commander-in-chief. I just pray he and his family will be safe and that our citizens will give him the time and the support to turn this ship around. The momentum has been going in the wrong direction for some time.

We have been on 4 continents & 29 countries ( mostly in Europe) since 2006 and have run into no problems at all as an American family.
That said, I certainly think Obama’s gracious uniting rhetoric beats Bush’s arrogant one hands down and does a lot to improve the world’s image of America.
He is quite the orator and just the symbol of his multi-cultural TCK , biracial beingness projects something entirely new.
How it all pans out, nobody knows, especially with today’s turbulent financial mess & geopolitical problems. But the hope he gives is so needed after an 8 year dry spell. 😉
