View at Sundance Resort near Park City
Next week I’m heading out to the Outdoor Retailer Show (OR, as insiders call it) in Salt Lake City. As serendipity would have it, the tourism folks in Park City recently contacted me about visiting their lovely city on a press trip. Unable to make their already organized tour, I suggested that I arrive a day early for my OR trip and get a whirlwind tour of Park City. Luckily, they were game.
So, in a week and a half I head out to Utah.
Me shortly after my first surfing lesson in Costa Rica
There are two things I enjoy most when I travel. One is to meet the locals. The other is to stretch my personal limits and experience some things I wouldn’t normally do. In Costa Rica, for example, I took a surfing class a number of years ago. I only rode the board once during that lesson but I LOVED it and think about going back to surf some more or perhaps even try some surfing here in the northwest (brrrrr).
So, with that criteria in mind, I received an initial itinerary for my Park City day and a half. In addition to staying at a B&B and visiting the farmer’s market (both great ways to meet locals), it includes a visit to the Utah Olympic Park where I’ll get to ride the 70 mph bobsled ride. 70 MILES PER HOUR! I barely do that on my motorcycle!

The description of this ride says, “This is a very aggressive ride, and we strongly discourage anyone from taking the ride who has chronic neck problems, back or kidney problems, heart problem, or who is pregnant.” Wowwie – I asked to be out of my element – here I go!
I’m just trying to determine how I might take photos while I’m on the ride…
