It’s the time of year again (in the northern hemisphere!) for pies, puddings and cookies. Here is a quick list of some delicious December desserts to try this season.
Also called Figgy Pudding, this traditional winter dessert originates from Shakespeare’s time in the mid 1600’s though it did not gain popularity in Britain until the 1800s, when it became a holiday staple. It is arguably one of the most exciting December desserts because, well, you light it on fire.
Pecans are very popular this time of year, and one of my favorite ways to use them is in Pecan Pie. Fun to make and very flavorful, it’s a sure crowd pleaser for a holiday party!
Christmas cookies have become synonymous with the season, and there are many different kinds. Russian Tea Cakes are also known as “Mexican Wedding Cakes” and “Butter Balls,” which is an apt name…but it’s also why they are SO heavenly. While it’s amusing that something can claim to be from two such opposite places as Russia and Mexico, the ingredients for these delightful cookies are so simple it’s not hard to believe.
Do you have any favorite delicious December desserts that you make every winter?
