How about a road trip to one of the most livable cities in the U.S. – Portland, Oregon? A short three hour drive from Seattle, the city offers the perfect weekend escape. Apart from the quirky discoveries revealed by the popular Portlandia series, let’s not forget the basic qualities that make the city so attractive to residents and tourists alike:
1) Downtown Architecture – Thanks to forward-thinking urban planning, the city restricts the height of buildings in the small downtown core, protecting views and light to create a more habitable environment.
2) Light-Rail – Portland’s MAX light rail conveniently connects the downtown core with outlying communities to minimize traffic congestion.
3) Riverfront – The city capitalizes on the natural beauty of its Willamette and Columbia Rivers with the popular Tom McCall Waterfront Park, boat cruises and tours.
What do you love most about the City of Roses, wanderboomers?

I have a friend that recently moved there, and I have to admit between that and Portlandia, I definitely have an interest in checking it out sometime. I hear they also have a pretty awesome roller derby league (Rose City Rollers).

I didn’t know that, Nagzilla. That would be an event! Thanks for stopping by ~

Portland’s a wonderful city – so much to see & do, from biking or walking along the riverfront, to visiting Powell’s Books – and of course, eating & shopping, too!
