. . . your day starts out like this.
There’s a reason the word “Hawaiian” is most often followed by the word “paradise.” I took this early morning shot from our ninth floor room of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. After a flight delay that got us into Honolulu close to midnight, we woke to the sounds of waves breaking on the shore below and birds tweeting “Aloha” from our balcony.
Time to rise and greet the day!
Can’t get enough rainbows? Be sure and check out my other two posts, Chasing Rainbows and March 17th: A Day for Rainbows.
What memorable morning wake-ups have you had in your travels, Wanderboomers?

Gorgeous shot Nancy! Question – what’s your favorite Hawaiian/Tropical resort? I’m planning a trip with my mother (who has almost never traveled outside the continental US), and all she’s ever wanted is a relaxing tropical vacation with lots of fruity drinks, warm weather, great service, and no bugs, in a beautiful location. If anyone has suggestions, I’m taking them!

Thanks, Lauren! I highly recommend the JW Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa where we stayed. I’ll be writing more about our experience in future posts, but one of the things I loved most was hanging out at the pool in the afternoon, where servers were only too happy to serve lots of fruity drinks. The location is beautiful, no bugs, warm weather, and Hawaiian hospitality at its finest. Click on the link in this post for more information. Truth in advertising: As a travel writer, I was awarded with some coverage (not all) of my hotel accommodations, but believe me, I would tell you if my experience had been less than positive. It was the best!

What a spectacular shot! Makes me wish I was there right now!

Thanks, Monica! I’m already back from Hawaii and singing the Seattle blues . . . But summer is bound to come to the Emerald City sooner or later :-).

Beautiful, Nancy! Sounds like Seattle’s had a reluctant spring… So glad that you got out and enjoyed paradise!
Memorable travel wake-ups… About 5 years ago, Cap’n J and I spent a few weeks on Costa Rica’s Caribbean side. Our favorite town was Cahuita, where there’s an amazing national park, something like 7 km of rainforest trail that runs right along the beach. Every morning, we’d wake up in our tiny bungalow to the sounds of howler monkeys and parrots starting their day. One of our favorite trips!

Oh, yeah we did, have that reluctant Spring, I mean. Hawaii became a necessary escape. What a wonderful memory of your morning wake-up calls in Costa Rica! Always nice to hear from you, Tele ~

We haven’t gotten to Hawaii yet but I want to. It takes as long to get there from the Midwest as it takes to get to France. We’d have to allow almost ten days for the trip, but during the school year my husband can’t afford that and in the summer is when he hits his research at other universities. I should tell him he needs to find one person in Hawaii who does his kind of research.

Hi, Julie ~ Hmm . . . France? Hawaii? France? Hawaii? Sooner or later your toss of the coin will favor Hawaii, and when it does, you’ll wonder what took you so long to get there! But I admit to being a true-blue Francophile so I understand your dilemma . . . Thanks for stopping by!
