I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: a skier can’t wait to be on the slopes to get in shape. Skiing is a sport that requires a good deal of preparation and work to excel at. This goes for any level of ability. From the beginner to the expert, all skiers can experience major benefits from better fitness including:
- increased endurance
- injury prevention
- faster recovery time
The result: more strong, fun days on snow. That is worth sweating for!
One of my main concerns as a full time skier is finding the time and energy to get those workouts in. Enter HIIT, otherwise known as High Intersity Interval Training. Imagine cramming in strength training for all your muscle groups and cardio into a compact session that need only be repeated a few times a week. It provides all the components for total body fitness without killing your free time.
Jessica Humphries from EnerJ FIT offers fit tips and HIIT sessions from her Youtube channel. Jessica is a functional fitness trainer and healthy lifestyle coach originally offering her services in the surroundings of the Laurentians in Quebec, Canada; EnerJ FIT is now expanding to a global level. Not only do her videos provide invaluable information, they also showcase the stunning natural beauty of the Tremblant area and soon other areas.
Jessica was kind enough to provide WaL readers with some ski specific exercises. It’s never too late to up your game and get fit for skiing. Get your FIT on!
