To better help you find and purchase an international travel insurance policy that meets your working holiday plans, we’ve explored: the ins and outs of international travel insurance and how to buy international travel insurance.
Now, you’ve asked “What travel insurance company should I use?” I’ve taken your #workingholidayworries to other travelers and working holiday makers, to find out which companies they’ve used and liked. Here are their top suggestions, based on personal experience working and living overseas:
- Southern Cross – While SC responds quickly to claims, travelers found fault in the things that aren’t covered by its policies: like dental issues and instances of theft. On the plus side, this company has some of the cheapest rates on the market.
- World Nomads – Most customers said WN’s service came with a personal touch, especially when processing claims. However, a few said the paperwork process for filing was extra painful when compared to other companies.
- 1Cover – Their phone service is helpful, but travelers expressed annoyance at the claims phone line, which only operates on Australian business hours. Feedback on claims response and reimbursement was mixed – be sure to read the small print, one traveler insisted.
- STA – This insurance is organized through the international travel agency. Travelers said they often felt pressured into purchasing a policy along with flights and tours when they booked in person; however, STA’s numerous physical branches around the world made filing claims and speaking with representatives very easy.
- International Medical Group – Though their policies are less comprehensive than other companies, IMG has cheaper fees for smaller packages. Travelers found their online account system convenient for communicating claims and concerns while on the road.
These comparisons are compiled from other travelers who have used the above international travel insurance companies, and in no way reflect the personal opinions or endorsements of the author.
