Q: Will I be in a shark attack if I swim in Australia?
Rumor has it that you have more chance of being hit by a coconut (yes, they have those in Australia, too) than of being caught in the jaws of a hungry Great White. You’re also twice as likely to be caught in a shark attack off the coast of Florida.
There are no silly questions about working holiday visas.
Each one is worth asking, whether it’s big and overwhelming, or seemingly small:
– Can you enter New Zealand on a one-way plane ticket?
– Do you need international travel insurance to work overseas?
– Why can’t you work in Canada?
– How cold does New Zealand get in the winter?
– Should you buy a Kindle if you find a job in The Outback?
– What’s the food like in Ireland?
You want answers from the people who’ve been there and done that working holiday. Experts who’ve served coffees in Sydney, ski instructed in New Zealand and taught English in Singapore. They won’t tell you want you want to hear, but what you need to hear.
(Like the truth about Australia’s deadly natives. Because Aussies have a very nonchalant way of stressing about animal attacks: they don’t. Ask a local if it’s safe to swim, and they’ll offer a good natured “She’ll be right.” This doesn’t actually mean you will be alright. It just means, realistically, there isn’t much you can do about it).
So don’t hold back – this is your forum for worrying! Every two weeks – as part of Gone Workabout’s Ultimate Guide to Working Holidays – your questions will be answered by myself and other working holiday makers.
