Vancouver was recently named the most livable city in the world by The Economist Intelligence Unit. In fact, two other Canadian cities were in the top ten – Calgary and Toronto (they missed Saskatoon but I’ll forgive it this time). Jeff Lee, a columnist for The Vancouver Sun wrote a great piece about receiving this honour. Although, he ponders the accuracy of The Economist ranking system (after all they ranked Pittsburgh above Los Angeles, New York and London!)
I’ve only ever visited Vancouver’s airport, but have been mentally planning a trip there for years now. The city boasts a perfect combo of mountains and ocean, arts and sports, and is also one of the healthiest cities in Canada. In addition to all that, it’s not far from British Columbia’s wine growing regions and it’s a short drive from the United States border. If you’re up for surfing, the waves of Tofino aren’t far and it you fancy a little island hopping, Victoria is a ferry ride away.
