There are plenty of movies that celebrate and explore backpacking and road trips. However, if you are like me, you want soft beds, big bathtubs and amazing food. These are my choices for movies that offer one or all of those three essentials (and I may have worked on a few of them):
1. THE HOLIDAY – Written and Directed by Nancy Meyers
Location: Swanky Beverly Hills mansion and charming countryside cottage in England.
2. MIDNIGHT IN PARIS – Written and Directed by Woody Allen
Location: In and around Paris (circa 1920 and 2011). Hotel Le Bristol used as a glorious backdrop for the 2011 storyline.
3. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL – Directed by Nicollas Stoller. Written by Jason Siegel
Location: Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu, Hawaii. Heartbreak in luxurious paradise.
4. CHOCOLAT – Directed by Lasse Hollstrom. Written by Robert Nelson Jacobs
Location: Johnny Depp and chocolate. Who cares where it was filmed (a picture perfect French village).
5. ALL JAMES BOND MOVIES – Various directors and writers
Location: Fancy hotels and casinos all over the world. Expensive cars, tuxedos and drinks that are shaken not stirred.
6. The Talented Mr. Ripley – Screenplay Written and Directed by Anthony Minghella
Location: Italy, Italy, Italy. Ah, to travel with a spoiled playboy millionaire that looks like Jude Law. A girl can dream.
7. ROMAN HOLIDAY – Directed by William Wyler, Written by Ian McKellan Hunter, John Dighton and Dalton Trumbo
Location: Rome on a motorscooter and lavish accommodations fit for a princess.
