This is one in a series of posts about the island of St. Kitts and my experiences while staying at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
I’m a pretty adventurous person, I know how to scuba dive, I’ve parasailed and I’ve ridden an ATV, but one thing I’d never tried before my trip to St. Kitts was ziplining. Ziplining over the rainforest is an incredible experience and one Sky Safari makes memorable and exciting. I especially liked that Sky Safari began our ziplining experience with a training sesson and practice run. Adventurous or not I was scared. The thought of hurtling through space on a thin wire dangling 250 feet above the rainforest floor left me feeling really edgy!
Our guides explaining the gear and how it works.
In my gear, ready for the practice run.
I listened carefully as our guides explained our gear, our zipline procedure and the stopping procedures. They made the learning process fun while emphasizing our safety and preparing us for our adventure! As I stepped into my gear a part of me wanted to run, thinking, “what the hell am I doing?” While the other part of me, the adventure traveler wanted to embrace the experience and enjoy the views. I knew from parasailing that the views would be incredible. That alone propelled me stay in my gear and take a deep breath while readying myself for the “Monkey Trainer” a 140 ft practice run.

The practice run is an excellent starting point for those who are nervous as I was. The practice run gives riders a real comfort zone for how the zipline feels and how the gear functions. After my practice run I felt much more excited about ziplining and less afraid of disaster! That’s not to say I wasn’t still afraid, I was, in fact I asked to go first, knowing the longer I waited the more nervous I would be.
My view from the zipline.
The views were amazing and looking down on the rainforest was breathtaking! The speed you travel on the zipline depends on which line you’re riding. On one run our guides told us we would reach speeds of forty mph and on our longest run we rode 1,350 feet, while riding 250 ft above the rainforest floor. I enjoyed my experience and look forward to repeating it. I’d like an opportunity to zipline St. Kitts again. Next time I’d take more photos now that I feel comfortable enough to go hands free and really let go!
