Capri is one of those places where you can enjoy a day excursion or a much longer vacation. I experienced Capri for a single day during one of several trips to Italy. Capri captured my heart with it’s beauty and simplicity. I enjoyed the delight of winding streets that bring unexpected and beautiful views of the island, where flowers bloom in profusion along gates and stone walls that capture visitors with their fresh scents and incredible color.
I enjoyed the views from the La Piazzelta; meaning small square in Italian where time doesn’t seem to matter as families and visitors alike enjoy one another and chat and laugh as they eat Italian gelato in the sunshine. Whether you go for a day or a longer visit there are beautiful places to see. I particularly enjoyed Villa St. Michael in the town of Annacapri. This historic villa is filled with beautiful treasures. Here you can see mosaic tiles that are copies of those found in Pompeii. There are also replica Roman and Pompeian statues. The views from the villa are stunning. They will draw you in with their splendor, making you wish you could stay a lifetime.
Another delightful stop during a visit to Capri is Augustus Gardens with an amazing array of blooming flowers and Italian statues that dot the park. This is another location with incredible views of Capri and the coastline. From the park you see a view of The Faraglioni, three immense rocks that jut from the ocean, one of which contains a natural arch that boats may pass through. Any visit to Capri would not be complete without tasting Gelato; an Italian style ice cream that has less air and is more concentrated than American ice cream. This gives the Gelato a more intense flavor with fewer calories and less fat than traditional ice cream, according to the Gelato shop owner I spoke with. No matter how you spend your days on Capri it will be a destination to treasure with history, beauty and true Italian style.
