The art in my home reflects my love of the tropics and travel. Some of my art has been purchased on trips and some of it painted lovingly by friends. Art has become a clear way to bring what I love into my home. Sometimes the delight of choosing a piece in a foreign locale and making arrangements for it’s shipping becomes a special part of the trip and the location I fell in love with. I enjoy walking by my tapestries, paintings or sculptures and thinking for a moment of the many places I’ve come to discover and love through my travels.
Several special pieces reflect my love of travel; the first piece is a mural that my friend Shelly painted for me of a Greek cathedral and the island view behind it. When I walk into the bathroom and see it I feel transported to another place, another life and I treasure that. A second piece I love is a painting that looks like an open window to the sea. When I stand and take in the beauty of this piece, the view takes me back to a place and time I treasure. I bought this painting on a trip to Miami Beach; so I treasure it for the memory of Guam it evokes and the memory of a special trip with a good friend. The last I will mention is painted by a friend who resides in Hawaii. He’s painted several views of the islands for my home. Simply looking at his paintings transports my heart to the islands I love.
I share these pieces and feelings with you so that you may be inspired to use art as a means to share your travel experiences and the memories you most love. With our art we express what is dearest to our heart and allow those who visit us a glimpse of places we treasure.
