Red snapper fillet. Served over a three-pepper (red, yellow, and green) quinoa. Accented with asparagus. Topped with a lobster bisque sauce. Decorated with chives. Accompanied by your very own lemon presser.
This was the special served the day I ate at Beaver Hall, Le Bistro Gourmand par Europea, in downtown Montréal. I enjoyed this fine cuisine lunch with my host Hugo Leclerc, the Manager of International Relations of Tourisme Montréal. And he ordered the same thing!
It was a hard choice though, as everything on the menu sounded delicious. I could have chosen the wild mushroom with ricotta cannelloni. Or the goat cheese salad with smoked salmon, grapes, nuts, and fine herbs. Or the beef tartare with wasabi peas, and crunchy bruschetta. Doesn’t the grilled shrimp with mango and basil vermicelli, and a cilantro vinaigrette sound good? I’m sure that even their classic fish and chips dish is tasty.
And that is just part of the lunch menu. There is also an evening menu, with many other wonderful selections.
Beaver Hall also serves champagne, and white, rose, red, and sparkling wines that range anywhere from $35CD (Canada, Quebec, Estate of Ridge, Fields Florence, Rose) to $500CD (Italy, Tuscany, Masseto, 2006, Red) for 750 ml.
And for dessert. Well the hazelnut mousse was an excellent way to end my meal. Of course, I could have chosen the classic vanilla Crème Brûlée, the chocolate mousse, the Crêpes Suzette, or even a banana split, to name a few.
Complete with white tablecloths, the ambience and the food of Beaver Hall makes this place a must-visit when in Montréal. Or you can choose from five other related restaurants.
Chef Jérȏme Ferrer says this on his brochure for his restaurants. (In French, of course, translation done by Hugo.):
I believe there shouldn’t be any difference between fine and casual dining, only good, real, and tasty dishes. I invite you to discover all six of my gourmands establishments.
This quote is from Beaver Hall’s website, again translated by Hugo:
Comfort and simplicity, freshness of products, authentic and tasty dishes, classics from French bistros…an urban dining experience for the senses in a charming yet casual atmosphere. Bon Appétit.
Sweet (and delicious) Travels!
