Hiking in Australia

hiking-great-ocean-road2 I was flipping through old photos during this past week looking for photos to use to illustrate my presentation for the author event at World Wide Books and Maps in Seattle - to promote Traveling With Kids. Coming across this photo was a total surprise - a very pleasant one :) We visited Australia in 2000, spending some time in Melbourne first and then taking a short road trip along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Naturally, with a preschooler in the car, we couldn't spend all our time driving, so we broke up the day by exploring some of the hiking trails we passed - which is where this photo was taken. I think the pace that children can bring to travel is a welcome one. Always nice to see happy family photos.

It’s great to have an outlet for all that energy and hiking can be a lot of fun with kids. Just have to remember to not expect to go too fast!

That picture is priceless! So cute! The Great Ocean Road is an increasingly popular Aussie destination to explore, did you get to Queensland while you were here?

What an adorable photo!

My husband and 4 yo E just returned from their first multi-day road trip together. Husband says he was extra tired at the end of each day after making so many active stops at playgrounds and parks!

That is a great photo. You should take another one, with the exact same pose, next time you’re there! I bet that little boy will have shot up by then.

Very cute photo! I’m trying to convince DH that Australia is on our must-go list (he’s not so sure).

I can’t wait to see you book. Very exciting!
