paros-view Paros, Greece As part of last week's Photo Friday, Heather over at HeatherOnHerTravels posted a beautiful view photo taken on Zakynthos, Greece - there's an intriguing story behind the photo which you should check out too :) Her photo from this Ionian island made me think - wistfully, I might add - of the many fun times we've had on Paros, one of the Cyclades islands. It is truly an island paradise. The photo above is the view from in front of the house where we stay on the island (which belongs to a family member). paros-1998 CAM outside the house where we stay on Paros 1998 (far left of the photo). What more does a two-year-old need? Sun, open air, a tub of water and a container with which to pour. Hours and hours of endless fun. Have you been to any of the Greek islands? Do you have a favorite? Do share - I don't need an excuse to return to Greece, but I'd love ideas on other islands to visit the next time we're there. Leave a comment. I have never been but it’s on the top of my list. :) I love reading all the posts about the Greek islands to help me decide which one to go first. Any suggestion?

Well naturally I’m going to say Paros, since we have a home-away-from-home there!
But seriously, Paros is small and off-the-beaten path (which I love). If you’re planning to get lost on a Greek island, this would be a good one for that. If you want to island-hop and explore all the Cyclades, I’d start with Santorini or Mykonos – which have good ferry connections to other islands.

Greece is one of my favorite destinations. So much to see and do. Crete was wonderful and I almost named my daughter Hania. (next one if there is another). Sifnos is great because it is close to athens, has fantastic food, quiet beaches and beautiful people and villages. On Thira (Santorini), you can skip everything man made in the last 2000 years and focus on the ruins and nature made wonders.

Thanks for reminding me I need to return some day … maybe after the credit crunch.

My last trip was as a student to Santorini where I had a moped accident just as I reached the beach at Oia.

I was so bummed because the beach was so beautiful!

@Michael: welcome! Thrilled you added your link for rental properties on Paros – thanks!
