Last Thursday, we started our Intrepid Pyramids to Petra tour in the busy city of Cairo, Egypt. It was great to be traveling again!
Chaotic is a mild term to describe Cairo. Horns incessantly honking, taxi’s skimming by within inches, buses crammed with people…all in a city that never seems to slow down this hectic pace. Twenty million people pack this city in a combination of both ancient ways and modern advances. However, the modern takes a back seat when the donkey carts come out on the roads in the early mornings laden with fruits and vegetables to be sold at the roadside markets.
Our visit to the Pyramids of Giza! I was so excited to see the pyramids – of course, I’d seen them in pictures, but to be there in person, wow! And they didn’t disappoint. In the desert, rising up on the dusty hills, they stand so proudly for workmanship that has truly stood the test of time. The last surviving Ancient Wonder of the World!
The Sphinx was my favorite. Said to be the face of God in earthly form, it still inspired awe when viewed up close. Seeing these ancient monuments was truly an unforgettable experience!
