Book Review
The Scent of Rain and Lightning
It’s a creepy cold case told from the point of view of the victims’ daughter. As a child, Jody’s father was murdered and her mother disappeared. The man convicted is set free 23 year later when his son grows up to be a lawyer and proves his innocence. But he’s not a nice guy at all. He’s a real nasty fellow and guilty of many things, just not the murder of Jody’s parents. Now imagine this piece of work returning to the small town that railroaded him into prison after being locked up for 23 years.
WanderLit Read: Life is Like a Walking Safari by Jill Paris
Life is Like a Walking Safari is not just a safari story, it’s a collection of short essays and stories. Each is fully encapsulated and able to stand alone. Not only did I love the humanity of Jill’s book. I loved how, with one voice, she wove between comedy, tragedy, adventure, and drama. From one story to the next and sometimes within one story, she never oversimplifies nor overcomplicates the inner human dialogue.
