In honor of Mothers Day, I would like to share these pictures I took of mothers and their children in Vietnam and Cambodia. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed meeting these lovely women.
Outside of Hanoi, a mother and daughter walk between the garden plots and gaze out the the grave of their mothers gone before. I love how the child, representing the future and the grave house, representing the past are both beacons of red in the green world.
Farther North, toward Sapa, the mother-daughter teams of hill tribe women wait by the road to bring travelers to their village.
At the Ox Market northwest of Sapa, mothers are buying and selling (and checking their email) with kids in tow. Not that different than my local grocery store.
Of course, sometimes you need to take a break and give the little ones some milk. Lucky for the Flower Hmong, there are no hang-ups about breastfeeding in public here.
In Hoi An, a mother stops to adjust her baby’s blanket.
At Golden Silk Pheach, in Cambodia, mothers bring their little ones to work. There is day care for the older children. The youngest ones stay close to mom.
Sometimes, very close!
They cut the legs of the looms short so it is easier for working mothers and their children to reach one another. How many factories in your country would alter equipment to accommodate mothers taking kids to work?
Happy Mothers Day to mothers around the world.
