So we are still here and the world still turns. Instead of the end of time, it turns out we just rolled over the odometer of the ages to a new beginning. Happy New Age wanderlusters!
As the popularity of apocalyptic fiction can attest, we have been fascinated with the end of the world for a long time. Today I lay awake at 6:11 a.m. EDT as the dawn broke and a new age sank through the clouds. This was the moment the Mayan Long Count read 13-0-0-0-0 (Haab: 3 Kankin, Tzolkien: 4 Ahau) AKA the beginning of a new 5125.36 year long cycle in Mayan timekeeping. Everyone likes a new beginning. There is excitement in a new journey and something inspiring about a New Year’s resolution. A return to the land of the Maya is high on my list of travel goals. My last visit was painfully short and there is much I missed. To prepare for the explorations, I have added The Lost City of Z by David Grann to my reading list.
What are your Mayan New Age resolutions? What are your book recomendations regarding all things Mayan?
