If you read my recent posts on Los Angeles, you know that in addition to visiting my family, I was looking for a respite from this Texas summer heat. I am currently in Cloudcroft, New Mexico finally enjoying a much needed climate change.
I picked up a couple of rolls of film before I left and wanted to share with you the beautiful colors of Venice Beach, captured on film.
The infamous Muscle Beach early in the morning.
Venice Beach Boardwalk
These surfers seem to have an aura around them!
Venice Beach Skate Park
An entire family of surfers.
I have a photo of myself in front of this mural in 1995.
Film is such a beautiful medium and it captures details (like surfer auras!) you can’t with digital. I never quite know what the images are going to look like until they are developed and I like that mystery. It also keeps me living in the moment, instead of looking at the back of my camera to see if I got the shot. Sure, sometimes I may not capture what I had hoped, but the color saturation and surprises more than make up for it.
