Yosemite National Park is one of my favorite national parks in the world. There is something about its soaring granite cliffs and deep dark-green valleys that make the heart sing. John Muir’s love for Yosemite National Park and for its forest and mountains is well known. Among his many famous and heartfelt quotes, one of my favorites is: “In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” So this winter, as we sit warm and cozy in our homes, watching snow fall gently outside, I want to take you on a virtual walk through Yosemite National Park. Through a mix of macros and landscapes, we will savor the spectacular beauty of Yosemite together.
A blue-hued Half Dome rises above the mist as dawn takes over from the night. Sunrise is one of the best times to photograph Yosemite when the mood is meditative.
Gorgeous patterns on a tree – nature is the best designer after all. Whenever I’m outdoors, I enjoy shooting macros of trees, plants, flowers and leaves. My camera affords me a closeup view of the detailed beauty and symmetry in nature which we so often take for granted.
Yosemite Valley Panorama with deer in the meadow. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see animals in their natural surroundings.
Mist and Mystery.
Dewdrop diamonds adorn a blade of grass. Macros like this take my breath away!
Fern Falls are best photographed with a slow shutter speed to capture the milky-white effect of the waterfall.
A curious mule deer looks on in Yosemite National Park.
Radiant fall colors in Yosemite. Although not as kaleidoscopic as Fall on the East Coast, Yosemite gives serious competition with it’s brilliantly sunlit yellow, red and orange leaves.
The path ahead. There are tons of superb hiking trails in Yosemite National Park, from leisurely strolls to the base of a roaring waterfall to a strenuous climb on steep granite to the top of Half Dome. My future posts on Yosemite will cover each of these hikes in detail.
I hope this brings some much-needed greenery to you this winter. Yosemite National Park is gorgeous in every season. The park is not only spectacular in spring and fall but otherworldly & surreal in winter. When a blanket of fresh powder covers everything, Half Dome wears its cap of snow proudly and Yosemite transforms into a dreamy white winter wonderland. Watch for my future posts on hiking in Yosemite National Park.
Happy (virtual) Hiking!
