In Seattle you haven’t had enough coffee until you can thread a sewing machine while it’s running.

Most of the time, I feel that Puget Sound saltwater is the lifeblood coursing through my veins. But some days, truth be told, it’s coffee.
Though I haven’t had a chance to hop on one of their tours yet, the kind folks at Savor Seattle invited Beth & me to a preview launch party for their newest “Coffee Bites & Sites” tour earlier this week. It was a chance to nibble our way through the itinerary, chat with Savor Seattle’s partners, and catch a bit of the buzz.
Paul Verano, owner of The Confectional, fed us Mochaccino cheesecake that made me swoon – a flavor, he explained, that is also a favorite of famed Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and his wife. Paul first opened his doors in New Zealand, you see, so his handmade cheesecakes have passed through the palms of hobbits to the paws of King Kong.
Our blood sugar levels soared as we nibbled on delectable espresso-smoked sea salt caramels from Chocolate Box, who also offers a “Tour de Chocolate Seattle” excursion which offers an immersion into the world of chocolate making. It sounds like a Willy Wonka dream-come-true.
While Starbucks and Caffe d’Arte provided the true brew, the bean made a few surprising appearances too – such as the sweet bite of coffee and lavendar rubbed sharp cheddar from Cheese Cellar.
Savor Seattle officially kicked off the Coffee Bites & Sites Tour on April 15th; for info on this and other Seattle food and culture tours check out their site, www.savorseattletours.com
