San Fran is one of my favourite cities in the whole world. Every single time I go there, I can see myself just staying there forever. The city just has that effect on people. You walk around and you can see your life in an air bubble beside you. Walking down the steps of your Victorian style town home, up a couple hills to work, and off to enjoy some amazing fresh seafood. I might just stop this blogpost now and hop on a plane.
This time around I had a full day and a tiny bit of night to explore. It started with some sea lions.
If you get up early enough and head to Pier 39 you can get a glimpse of some sea lions generally being just the cutest things ever. I have never been able to get my act together fast enough to see them, except for this magical time. They are just so darn adorable. I watched them play, push each other around, and take a lot of naps for about half an hour before moving on.
Still quite early in the day I leisurely strolled by the water until I reached The Ferry Building. A great place to stop and take some pictures. If your hungry there is a marketplace inside as well. Turning right I headed down Market Street and watched the vendors slowly open up their stores and jewelry stands. There was even some early morning busking happening.
It’s always so much fun seeing a city come to life for the day. Im not normally a waking up early enthusiast, but there are some definite pro’s to catching the day early on. I walked to Union Square just in time for the stores to open, and perused the many shops in that area.
Time to slowly head back I just walked in the general direction of where my hotel was. It took me about two hours but I stopped along the way in Chinatown and to check out Lombard Street. It is a windy block of road with sharp turns all the way down. Looking at it was less thrilling than driving down it, but it was cool to see.
Last stop before calling it a day was to hop on the very touristy but very fun Powell/Hyde cable car. It completed my San Francisco experience and led me straight to where I needed to be.
My day was absolutely lovely. The sun was shining, people were smiling at each other and I gained a whole lot of muscle from walking uphill.
