A good sunscreen in essential in my line of work. As a river guide and international tour leader, I happen to spend the majority of my day outside. As I’ve gotten older, the more I layer up and try my best to shield myself from the sun. Whether I’m on the river or high up in the Himalayas, you always need to wear your sunscreen.
Goddess Garden Organics is a new natural sunscreen made of 85% organic ingredients. Based in Boulder, Colorado, the company has come out with a wide variety of sunscreens from lotion to spray style, all boasting their natural ingredients.
I tried out the Sunny Face Natural Sunscreen ($17.99) during my trip to Bhutan. High up in the Himalayas, good sun protection is vital. Skin cancer is a young person’s disease, and I didn’t want to take any chances.
I applied the SPF 30 lotion in the morning before I headed out for the day, spreading it over my face and arms. The cream took a bit of rubbing to mix in. With the active ingredients being titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, it’s understandable that it took a bit to work it in. There was a slightly shiny residue from the screen, as expected from the thick cream. Hey, if that’s the price to stay melanoma free, sign me up.
As recommended, I reapplied every two hours throughout the day, and sure enough I kept burn free. I did feel a build-up of cream, and my skin did feel extra greasy from the zinc build up. I was very happy to wash my face and arms that night. Unfortunately the cream was thick, and I wasn’t looking forward to wearing it day in and day out.
One thing is for sure-the mineral sunscreen is doing its’ best for the environment. On the squeeze tube it reads that it is free of chemical sunscreens, biodegradable, cruelty free, reef safe and finally, non-GMO. They even include sun protection measures on their directions. Did I mention it’s made in the USA? Check, check and check. Impressive, Goddess Garden. Well done.
What I love:
- USA based company, focused on bringing an eco-friendly, organic alternative to sunscreen, which is a necessary product for everyone.
- Ample supply in the 3.4 oz tube-will last many river rafting seasons and international trips. 2 years until expiration date.
- I appreciate the organic and natural ingredients used.
- Nice, fresh smell once applied.
Not so much:
- After reapplying for a day in the sun, there feels to be a little buildup and grease.
- Did not like using it on a day to day basis on my face-clogged my pores.
