Traveling with Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd and Ann Kidd Tayor
is a mother daughter journey to the sacred places of Greece, Turkey and France.
When I first picked up Traveling with Pomegranates I thought it was a mother daughter journey of travel. It is a journey of travel and so much more. It is the story of two women’s personal journey through life and their spiritual growth. Their travel experiences in Greece and Turkey allow them to explore their spirituality, their mother daughter relationship and to delve deeply into their personal beliefs.
Throughout the journey Sue struggles with her bloosoming desire to leave non fiction writing to write a fiction novel. At the same time she is handling her deepening emotion over becoming an older woman. As they travel Sue and her daughter Ann struggle between disconnection and a deeper mother daughter connection. Sue draws strength from the feminine spirit of the Madona figures they encounter and Ann from the Goddess Athena, whom she feels connected to from her first trip to Greece. The book is their journey of feminine self discovery, their changing perspectives on life and the culmination of their travel dreams.
The book will make you think and reflect on your life and your own journey. It’s a beautiful read.
