Jet lag, sleeping in unfamiliar beds, poor nutrition, sheer exhaustion from sightseeing: there are plenty of ways that traveling can make you feel – and look – worn down. For those times when a cup of coffee just isn’t in your future, here are a couple of tricks for getting yourself bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
Have a Big Glass of Water
Between canned airplane air and inaccessibility to water, there are plenty of ways for travelers to get dehydrated. Dehydration can cause tiredness, so have a big glass of water to help wake yourself up! Bonus points if the water is cold, as it is suggested the cold will help increase the flow of blood to your brain.1
Do Some Jumping Jacks
Jumping jacks – and similiar calisthenics – get your blood and endorphins flowing. The best part about jumping jacks is that you can do them anywhere!
Do a Backbend
Backbends stimulate your bloodflow and can help you wake up. For me, Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward-Facing Bow, or Wheel Pose) is an asana that I shouldn’t practice after four p.m. unless I want to be up all night. Make sure that you are properly warmed up before diving into any deep backbends!
Fake It Until You Make It
When all else fails, fake it until you make it. I like to spritz Lush Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water for All Skin Types 3.3 Fl Oz (100ml) on my face when I’m feeling tired, and I think that dabbing a little Benefit Cosmetics Ooh La Lift under my eyes can make a world of difference. Or just use the time-honored trick of hiding behind dark sunglasses!
