My new favorite kitchen gadget NutriBullet arrived in this cheerful box
I have a little confession to make: I saw David Wolfe’s infomercial about the NutriBullet many months ago when I was house sitting my folk’s place. Since I haven’t had cable tv for years, I admit the easy lull of the TV set is addicting. In between House Hunters and Pickers, I watched then almost drove the hour to the nearest store to pick one up.
Fast forward 6 months and I find myself spending a lot more time working than working out. Read: none of my pants/shorts/skirts fit me. This calls for something drastic which in my world means more exercise and less triscuits (the flavored ones haunt me from the kitchen pantry). I’m blessed to be 5’8 for the height stretches the extra weight around a bit. If you read my previous blogs you know that I spent a week at a yoga retreat at Feathered Pipe in Helena, Montana with Elena Brower. Honestly, doing yoga 5 hours a day and eating mostly salads and freshly prepared meals twice a day can really trim off the fat. And coming back to my normal routine of sitting at my computer will put it all back.
Hence, a shiny new Nutri Bullet has graced my kitchen. I’m not new to eating healthy or consciously and for the most part have a very healthy diet. Where I’m not so hot is only eating when I am hungry. Historically, I’ve been a grazer since I will snack most the day through but since embarking on a new career and many other lifestyle changes, I’ve resorted to eating no matter if I am hungry or not. I think they call that emotional eating but all I feel is temporary bliss that transcends into a muffin top.
Fresh organic produce
I made a special trip to the local grocer for a cart full of fresh fruits and vegetables. The NutriBullet comes with a recipe book and outlines 3 stages of recipes, going from super sweet with a lot of fruit to more vegetables less fruit. Not being one for following recipes, I started with 1/2 avocado, a handful of almonds, a tablespoon of flax seeds, 12 grapes, a handful of kale, ginger and water. And voila…green and delicious!
Green and delicious drink posing as a green blob…it’s my first NutriBlast!
The consistency was less like my Omega juicer makes where the pulp is separated from the juice. However the NutriBullet is no juicer. It’s an “extractor” which basically means the 600 watt motor shreds everything to a creamy consistency, making nice of my flax seeds. I highly recommend doing a little research on flax!
I’ve a feeling this is just the beginning of a beautiful new friendship and one that I will share with my family and friends. I started tonight with my first willing tasters, my folks. Initial thought is to make one meal a day with the NutriBullet, which will pack in a good amount of fresh veggies. I also anticipate making some of the soup recipes – butternut squash or white bean and veggie – provided in the recipe book that comes with each purchase. The book also includes a section on health snacks and wraps. Ummm, eggplant and red pepper wrap. And of course I’m excited to extract wheatgrass for the first time at home!
A word of advice: Pay attention to the line on the cups, on small one large, that read “Max”. This indicates how much content you can add before it starts to spill out the bottom. If you fill it up like they show in the picture on the box above, pretty sure you will have leakage.
Like most healthy habits, share them with a friend who in this case also happens to be my Mom! Salut!
