My beloved bottles of Alaskan flower essence healing lovingly displayed on my altar along with my lucky ganesha notebook and a sweet painting of Saraswati a friend brought me from India. I will be doing several articles on creating altars in the near future!
I have what I would call “superior olfactory sensitivity” aka SOS which really just means that I have the smelling sense of a blood hound. I can detect the smell of smoke, propane or alcohol on someone’s breath a mile away, a human breathalizer. Did you know that a blood hound has 300 million sensory cells in their nose? That’s three times the average dog and 30 times the average human???
We all have one or two senses that dominate while the others are less developed. In fact, next time you get stressed out, go through your senses one by one: taste the creamy alfredo sauce from last night’s meal, imagine listening to that song that just sends you (one of mine is Lux Aurumque) or feel the warm hands of your masseuse gliding over your bare skin… This simple act will bring you back to the present moment and out of whatever fear or anxiety you caught up in.
Since I am a super smeller (very different than super smelly), I use mostly flowery scents often to calm me. In fact, I have blissed away thousands of miles of road thanks to various rose and jasmine water sprays I keep in my car, just for that extra special traffic jam on the way to work. A little lightly scented spray and a big sigh later, I am back to my happy place.
This past month I have been studying for a BIG exam and I found myself pretty stressed out as I tried to wake my slumbering (extinct) memory synapses. Next year will be 20 years since I graduated from college and also the last time I can recall taking a test of this caliber. So I consulted a friend who is in the know about flower essences and a few days later, she delivered to me 2 versions of Alaskan Essence’s “Easy Learning”. They combine flower, gem and environmental essences to create wonderful support tools. I used the spray around my head and the space where I would be studying and I placed several drops of the injestable formula into my drinking water.
The ritual soothed me every time and found I was retaining information from a clear space. I also happen to love the light mist on my face, it seems to instantly calm me. Through this, not only did I pass the exam -happy dance- but I also learned the value of having the subtle yet detectable healing support from nature.
You can find their products at the Alaskan Essences website.
AND…while on their website, I also noted they have a “Travel Ease” formula with Yarrow, Smoky Quartz and more! Since the bottles are 1 ounce in size, guess what will be in my purse next plane trip!
